Botanical & Habitat Surveys

Arvensis Ecology specialises in Botanical and Habitat Surveys, ranging from small development sites, through to national nature reserves. We have worked with a number of Government Agencies including Natural England and National Resources Wales, as well as NGOs, Ecological consultancies and private individuals. We are often subcontracted in by other ecological consultancies to provide expert botanical surveys of a given area, particularly when these areas are complex or diverse.

Arvensis Ecology has the capacity to collect, process and digitise large amounts of data, maintaining good scientific methodologies and data standards throughout. This data is then provided in detailed reports tailored to the objectives required. Our reports have included comprehensive botanical species lists (floras), management plans and scientific studies. We are also able to offer GIS mapping and spatial analysis services.

We work individually or supporting and co-ordinating large groups of volunteer surveyors, validating and refereeing their records as well as collating them into clear and concise reports. In the past we have helped run ‘citizen science’ projects with a number of individuals repeatedly surveying a site.

Many of our reports not only list the species present but discuss the importance and significance of these findings, put into context with historical records and research of the area.

We can provide:

  • Detailed habitat surveys
  • National Vegetation Classification surveys
  • Species surveys (individual taxa surveys across a site/area)
  • Floras (a comprehensive, systematic account of the plant species of a given area)
  • Management plans for a site
  • Surveys prior to tree planting or other changes in site use
  • GIS mapping and spatial analysis services
